In one sentence: An investment scam promises you will make a lot of money with little or no risk, but the offer is fake or not worth it.
Why it matters: All investments carry risk, and anyone who guarantees big returns is a scammer. These scams can start with a message on social media or a dating app, and often push you to act fast. This is not financial advice.
One thing to do: Before you pay, check the firm on the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Financial Services Register (UK) or Investor.gov (US). Being listed is not a guarantee: scammers copy real firms’ details. If you cannot find the firm, do not use it.
