Phishing

In one sentence: Phishing is a scam message, sent by email, text or phone call, that tries to trick you into giving away information or clicking a link.

Why it matters: The message often looks like it comes from a company you know, such as a bank. It may say there is a problem with your account or your payment. A real company should not ask for your password or a code in a message.

One thing to do: Do not click. Contact the company with a phone number or website you already know. To report: in the US, forward texts to 7726 and report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. In the UK, forward texts to 7726 and emails to report@phishing.gov.uk.
